COVID-19 and the Construction Industry

The ongoing Movement Control Order (MCO), imposed by the Malaysian Government commencing 18 March 2020, is vital in ensuring the safety of the Rakyat against the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. The restriction, however, poses challenges and risks in all industries across the board including the property development industry. Everyone in the supply chain – developers, contractors, suppliers of building materials and equipment, manufacturers, professionals, purchasers and etcetera are facing a tough time in meeting their various commitments. We are mindful of the concerns by our members and rest assured that REHDA has been working very diligently through our engagements with the relevant ministries and agencies in ensuring the interest of the industry is well protected even during this trying time.
REHDA lauds the Government’s announcement to allow certain sectors including construction activities to commence work from 15 April 2020, on condition that the affected contractors obtain the necessary approval. As such, we are pleased to share with members some pertinent information for their reference as we adjust our routines to the new normal.

Efforts to Combat the COVID-19

Our hearts, thoughts and prayers go out to the people who have been affected by this unprecedented event.
